In 2018, the City of Atlanta conducted a thorough analysis of its potential to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Based on that assessment, the City has established the interim targets listed in the table below.

Climate Action Plan

 

In 2015, the Atlanta City Council enacted a Climate Action Plan, which created targets to reduce emissions. These targets are the targets that are included in the City’s public materials at this time but will be updated to reflect revisions in the coming months. These targets in 2015 were:

Commercial buildings

Reduce energy consumption in commercial buildings by 20% by 2020 and 40% by 2030 (2009 baseline).

Residential buildings

Reduce energy consumption in residential buildings by 20% by 2020 and 40% by 2030 (2009 baseline).

Transportation

Reduce GHG emissions from transportation by 20% by 2020 and 40% by 2030 (2009 baseline).

Increase waste diversion rate to landfills up to 80% by 2020.
